4 Mrs O's new hope

As soon as I learn to use my new arm, I need to return home right away because my son is looking after the place while I am here and he must return to his home and family. I can not leave the house empty and my neighbors can not look after my animals and my garden.

 SOLUTIONS REQUIRED IN CASE MANAGEMENT:

1.       She has a problem getting the prosthesis on and off as her stump is very short and the back ‘figure of eight’  is difficult to manage.

2.       Madame O needs to understand enough about the workings of the prosthesis so that she can adjust/repair it at home. Ideas about what could go wrong and how to manage the repair without having to travel several hours would probably mean that she will use it to advantage.

3.       Madame O has to walk long distances to get water to feed her animals, water her crops and use for cooking. She has to walk an hour each way twice a day. She did not comment on the terrain but at the moment she use s a shoulder pole and two buckets as do other women. This is very tiring and difficult to balance on the shoulder on the amputated side.

4.       Madame O needs to mix water with corn meal to make mash to feed the pig.  She has to carry the mash to the pig sty. She has to carry the heavy container into the pig sty.

5.       Madame O needs to gather firewood for her kitchen stove. She needs to carry a basket on her back, climb the hills in the neighborhood, pick up the wood and put it in her basket. The basket would be on top of the figure of eight webbing on her back.

6.       Madame O lives alone and must manage all aspects of daily life. She is a good problem solver however and seems to be able to pick up on suggestions and ideas and then adapt them to her particular situation.

7.       Madame O seems to be pretty well connected in her village. She needs to be able to gain the necessary documents and information to gain government compensation, house repair and maintenance costs, etc which might be available to those affected by the earthquake.
